In the 44th match of IPL held in Dubai between RCB and CSK, we witnessed a very good comeback from CSK. The match was a must win for CSK to redeem itself as a good side. RCB won the toss and chose to bat first.

In the first innings, we saw a very good bowling spell executed by the bowling unit of CSK. We saw an exceptionally good bowling by Sam Curran (3-0-19-3), Deepak Chahar (4-0-31-2) and Santner (4-0-23-1). Everyone from the bowling unit made sure that they restrict the batsman from hitting the boundaries and picking early wickets. We saw some exceptionally good efforts by Faf du Plessis while fielding and taking some amazing catches. As a whole unit we could see CSK perform better than the other games and play their natural game. They kept picking wickets every now and then which made it difficult for the RCB batting unit to build a steady partnership and score big. CSK successfully restricted RCB to 145 runs with 6 wickets.

From the batting unit we saw Virat Kohli (50 runs in 43 balls), AB de Villiers (39 runs in 36 balls) and Devdutt Padikkal (22 runs in 21 balls) contribute to the scoreboard. We also saw Aaron finch playing some good cricket but it did not contribute much to the side as he lost his wicket early in the game. We saw some smart bowling from the CSK bowling unit. Throughout the innings they kept the control in the game and kept building pressure on the RCB batting unit.

In the second innings we saw that RCB bowling unit was not able to restrict CSK batsmen. According to the post match interview by Virat Kohli, the pitch did not favour much of their bowlers and they did not bowl as well as the CSK bowling unit. The CSK batting unit played exceptionally well with Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring his maiden 50 and contributing 65 runs to the win. With the new batsman on the squad, no one predicted that he would play such an excellent innings. He maintained his calm and backed himself well throughout the innings. With an early wicket of Faf du Plessis, we somewhere thought that the game would turn in RCB’s favour. With Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Raydu building a good partnership the game turned in CSK’s favour. With MS Dhoni playing the the last few overs, the fans were really excited to see him bat and finish the game but it was Ruturaj Gaikwad who finished off in style with a six.

The game was interesting to watch as most of them were not expecting CSK to get this game. With RCB in-form it was surprising to see the RCB bowling unit struggling to restrict the batsman. It was a sweet win for CSK.

Sometimes in life all we need to do is trust ourselves and let the difficult time pass. There is no use in beating yourself up, and underestimating your own strengths. We all have the strength and the capability to come back stronger than before after a setback. Sometimes along with the external factors playing in your favour it is also important to have an internal strong belief that you will get through. You have to prepare yourself for the win every time and accept the failures with a smile and take it as an opportunity to improve yourself more and more. We all have experienced certain downfalls in our life and have often engaged in self depreciating behaviours which is understandable but we always have a choice to see something as an obstacle in our way and sit back or as an obstacle to overcome and reach our destinations.

It does hurt when you don’t do well so you try to amplify certain emotions. So that the guys just don’t drop the game. That can leave with 12 painful hours of the remaining time in the tournament. You have to enjoy the game no matter where you are on the table. If you are not enjoying the cricket, it can become cruel and painful

“I felt this one was one of the perfect games. Everything went to plan, and the execution was there

M.S. Dhoni in most match interview

It is you who can make the choice to sit back after the setback or keep trying and have a stronger comeback. Setbacks are painful and need time to process them but once done, you have to stand up and make the difference. You have the power to change your own life! This was one of the most important thing that I have learnt from CSK’s performance in this tournament and how this match was not just a lesson in cricket but a lesson for life. The results may not be in your favour and everything can seem to be moving away but if you keep trying and turn up at each opportunity, one day, you will change the game.

Key takeaways from this match:

  1. You have to hold up to yourself and your team and believe that you will get it.
  2. Never lose hope in your team even if everyone does.
  3. Be humble about your success and your failures.
  4. Everyone is strong in their game, it’s just the matter of who turns up and gets the job done that makes the difference.
  5. Never underestimate others or overestimate yourself. Keep the balance.
