In the 47th match of IPL held at Dubai between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, we witnessed a magical performance by SRH. Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to field first. It was an important match for SRH to be in the running for the playoffs and Delhi was looking for its 1 win that would help them reach at the top of the table and set themselves in the playoffs.

In the first innings itself, we saw a rather surprising performance by David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha. In the power play itself they score 77 runs without losing any wickets. This was the turning point of the whole game. With Delhi bowling unit finding it difficult to restrict the batsman, we saw some classic batting by Wriddhiman Saha! Both David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha play the very beautiful knock and it was a treat to the eye. However we did see some good bowling efforts by the Delhi Capitals but SRH batsman had an upper hand in this game. With Manish Pandey then contributing 44 runs and Kane Williamson joining him after Wriddhiman Saha’s wicket, they contributed very well to the score in the last few overs and ended the innings with 219 runs on the board. From the very first ball, SRH’s intention was clear that they are in this to win this!!!

In the second innings we saw some good bowling from the SRH bowling unit. With Rashid Khan (4-0-7-3) bowling phenomenally it was difficult for the DC batsman to keep the scoreboard moving. Along with Rashid Khan we also saw some amazing performance by Sandeep Sharma (4-0-27-2), T Natarajan (4-0-26-2), Shahbaz Nadeem (1-0-8-1), Jason Holder (4-0-46-1) and Vijay Shankar (1.5-0-11-1). The DC batting line up however crumble the pressure created by the SRH bowling unit. With early wickets and no steady partnership we saw the DC batting unit feeling the pressure. It was very disheartening for the Delhi fans to see the team lose this game. On the other hand the Sunrisers fan extremely delighted with their performance.

The Sunrisers bowling unit restricted Delhi capitals to 131 runs with all wickets down by 18.6 overs. It was indeed a great performance by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and we hope that Delhi Capitals comes back stronger from this one and gets that win that they are looking for.

This match however was a good example of having a winning mindset and approaching the situation at hand with positivity and belief. The intent behind doing something actually shapes your approach towards anything. Sometimes you might be clear with your intent but the execution bit of it needs more work. It’s nothing new to humans but we often forget to get our basics stronger and have a collective common goal and approach when working with the team. When it comes to execution bit, it is really important that when the plans don’t go right we don’t have to lose hope but look back and see what went wrong and how you can correct it. When it comes to close, compact scheduled programs it is important to be proactive and on the go and see what’s working and what’s not working. When you’re working with the team, it is important to have the team on the same page are there is any difference which might affect the performance, that difference needs to be addressed and worked through. You don’t have to let failures bug you but you have to take the lessons from it and prepare for the next game/event/opportunity.

It is very truly said that intent plus motivation and execution together leads to a good performance. If there is a backfoot on any one of the areas, the overall performance is affected.

Key take away from this match:

  1. You have to keep working and get the small details right in order to achieve your goal.
  2. When the intent is strong, you are motivated to perform your best and the execution is on point, you will get a positive result of your effort.
